Mt. Batulao : My First Overnight Trek

Writer's picture: sayaramaesayaramae

Mt. Batulao (811 MASAL) is located in Nasugbo, Batangas. It has a difficulty of 4/9, trail class 3 and is popular among hikers. It has 2 major trails - the "Old Trail" and the "New Trail" in which hikers have an option to take.

I haven't spent a night in a mountain because we always opted to do a day hike. But this time, since we are preparing for Mt. Amuyao in Buenguet and Mt. Batulao being just 3 hours away from Manila, we decided to have an overnight hike there as a preparation.

But first, a groupie pic is required. :)

How to go there?

We left Manila at around 2 in the afternoon. We took a bus (Php 120) from Buendia going to Nasugbu, Batangas. It took us to 3 hours before we reach the jump-off at Evercrest. From there, we rode a tricycle going to the beginning of the trail. Fare is Php 100 for 3 to 4 person.

We started the trek at 5 PM. The itinerary design was for a "chill" climb. So we weren't in a rush. It rained that day so we got a muddy trail along the way.

Ouch! Our feet. :)

What a perfect place to watch the sunset.

We took the "Old Trail" and we reached the campsite at 6 PM. We set up our tents, cooked our dinner, ate and kwentuhan to the max.

The next day, we woke up pretty early because the boys wanted to have time-lapse during sunrise. So from the campsite, we started to trek going to the summit by 4 AM.

Going to the summit is a bit of a challenge. We need to pass this rope thingy going up. But it was really fun.

See the trail at my back? It's really steep. The rope is the final ascend.

Finally at the summit.

Since there are only few people who climb the mountain that day. We had the chance to enjoy the summit and had our photo shot.

Playtime.

That trail is the "New Trail".

After enjoying the summit. We started to go back to the campsite because we haven't had our breakfast yet.

After eating our breakfast, we started to clean up because we need to start to descend.

Our picture with the Cavite Mountaneering Club. Feeling like a pro. :) haha

Before heading to Manila, we craved for Bulalo so we stopped in Tagaytay.

I really enjoyed our overnight stay in Mt. Batulao. I love this mountain and will definitely go back.
